Mango just launched a circular denim collection, made from recycled and recyclable materials

It’s a widely known fact that denim (opens in new tab) is one of the more environmentally taxing materials in our wardrobe. In fact, Good on You (opens in new tab) reports that Levi’s once stated that producing a single pair of jeans requires more than 3,000 litres of water.

That’s why, we’re always on the lookout for sustainably made (opens in new tab) denim, and today Mango just launched its own iteration created with circularity in mind. Made from materials that are both recycled and recyclable (opens in new tab), Mango has thought about every step of a garment’s life cycle within this collection. The range has been made from a single type of fibre and contains minimal trimmings, which means the items can easily be recycled in years to come if need be.

Of course, this is just one step in the right direction for Mango. As a brand, Mango aims to become increasingly sustainable as the years go on, and by 2030, the brand has said that it hopes all of its garments will be made from recycled fibres or materials of a sustainable origin (opens in new tab)

For the circular denim campaign, Mango has teamed up with model Indira Scott, who explained why being the face of a recyclable collection really resonated with her. “I just remember my developmental ages like it was kind of the birthing of ‘reduce, reuse, recycle,'” Scott said.

“I feel like for me, personally—and I think a lot of people around my age relate—feeling this kind of utter responsibility to take care of our planet because we could be the last generation that’s really going to affect how the next generations live.”

From cargo trouser (opens in new tab) silhouettes to denim blazers and the cutest cropped jacket, keep scrolling to shop Mango’s new circular denim collection below.

Ditch Your Makeup Removing Wipes for One of These 12 Best Micellar Waters

11 best micellar waters for every skin type

Courtesy Photo

We updated this article in January 2023 to add information about each product, based on testing by the Good Housekeeping Institute Beauty Lab, dermatologist recommendations and editor favorites.

Looking for a new makeup remover or just want to try a new gentle face cleanser? Look no further than micellar water. One of the biggest benefits of this non-stripping water is that it doesn’t require rinsing at all, making it especially suitable for sensitive skin types, says Dendy Engelman, M.D., a New York-based board-certified dermatologist. While micellar waters can be used in the evening to remove the day’s grime and gunk, they “are also a great morning cleanser that won’t strip skin,” says celebrity esthetician Jeannel Astarita.

Use micellar water is pretty straightforward: For best results, apply with a cotton pad or cloth, says Dr. Engelman. “Saturate the cotton pad with micellar water and gently wipe across your face,” she explains. Debris from your skin will land on the cotton pad, and voilà, all clean!

The Good Housekeeping Institute Beauty, Health & Sustainability Lab has tested hundreds of face cleansing and makeup removing products over the years, including micellar waters. In the Lab’s latest makeup remover test, our scientists evaluated properties such as efficacy, thoroughness and speed before dispersing product to 176 testers, who then tried products in their home and considered several factors after use. This list includes top-tested micellar water cleansers as well as expert-loved picks. Ahead, our 11 favorite micellar water cleansers, including picks for oily, combination, acne-prone and sensitive skin.

Our top picks:

You can read more about how we evaluate and choose micellar waters — plus everything you need to know to shop for the perfect one for you — at the end of this guide. Looking for more ways to clean your skin? Check out our guides to the best makeup removers and the best face washes for your money.

How we choose the best micellar waters

In the GH Beauty Lab’s most recent makeup remover test, which involved testing micellar waters, our scientists tallied 12,200 total data points to find the best of the best. The Lab tested how well they removed eyeliner from skin in one swipe and then measured the number of swipes needed to completely remove the eyeliner. Our scientists also evaluated their efficacy, thoroughness and speed in removing eyeliner from skin.

Afterward, 176 testers tried the products at home, taking into consideration ease of dispensing, application and rinsing off; texture; scent; perceived effectiveness in removing makeup; whether they caused irritation or breakouts; and the look and feel of skin after use.

The products included above are a combination of Lab test winners, dermatologist recommendations and editor favorites.

What to look for when shopping for micellar waters

To find the best micellar water for your skin type, take the following into consideration:

✔️ Formulas: Most micellar waters have similar formulas, Aral notes. True to their name, “They are mostly water (even if it lists a juice or distillate as first ingredient) and have a low concentration of a mild detergent,” she adds. So, they will likely all do the job of removing your makeup effectively.

✔️ Ingredients: Some micellar waters claim additional skin benefits such as hydration, “but a micellar water formula is unlikely to hydrate skin to such a degree that you can skip your daily moisturizer,” Aral says. So make sure you don’t skip moisturizing just because you’re using a micellar water!

Do you need to wash your face after using micellar water?

Technically, no. “These are designed so that you don’t have to wash afterwards,” explains Aral. “But if you still like to follow with your favorite cleanser or just water, you won’t be committing a crime.”

Can you use micellar water every day?

Yes! Just make sure you find the right formula for your skin, Aral advises. Once you’ve found the most effective one for you, “it can be used every day for removing makeup and dirt at the end of the day,” she says.

Why trust Good Housekeeping?

Catharine Malzahn most recently updated this article. She works closely with the Good Housekeeping Institute Beauty Lab to help deliver fact-based, science-backed beauty coverage. Over the years, she has interviewed experts, written product reviews and tested hundreds of skincare products including cleansers and makeup removers. Many of the micellar waters included above are ones she’s personally tried.

She worked with GH Beauty Lab Executive Director Birnur Aral, Ph.D. to update this story; Birnur provided expert insight as well as product recommendations. In addition to her 15 years of leading clinical and consumer testing in the Beauty Lab, Birnur has R&D experience through her seven-year stint at Unilever U.S.

Former GH Assistant Beauty Editor Paige Stables wrote the original article. At the time of original publish, she interviewed board-certified dermatologist Dendy Engelman, M.D. and celebrity esthetician Jeannel Astarita for expert insight and product picks.

The Met Gala

For fashion devotees, the first Monday in May is always a significant date in the calendar as it marks the occasion of the Metropolitan Museums’ annual Costume Institute Gala. (Or the Met Gala (opens in new tab), as it’s more commonly referred to.)

The event is considered the super bowl of fashion or the fashion Oscars, if you will. Each year, the guest list reads like the who’s who of Hollywood’s A-list, with celebrities partnered alongside the world’s top fashion designers.

Of course, many will know that the Met Gala always has a specific theme, which is a reflection of the exhibition shown within the museum. From 2019’s theme, Camp: Notes on Fashion, to 2016’s theme Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology, attendees of the gala also often dress to adhere to the chosen subject of the exhibition.

And this year, it seems we best prepare ourselves to see a lot of Chanel, as the exhibition’s theme has been announced as “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.”

Alongside a theme, each year the Met Gala has a panel of famous hosts, who act as co-chairs alongside Anna Wintour. Today it’s been revealed that this year’s hosts will be Michaela Coel, Penélope Cruz, Dua Lipa and Roger Federer.

Karl Lagerfeld, who passed away (opens in new tab) in 2019, was best known for being the creative director of Chanel. The designer helmed the brand from 1983 until his passing. It is undeniably his time at Chanel (opens in new tab) that made Lagerfeld a household name, however, what many don’t realise is that he was also the creative director of Fendi between 1965-2019, and worked at Chloé in the 1970s.

According to Vogue, the exhibit is not set to be a standard retrospective of Lagerfeld’s designs. It will focus strongly on how the designer used sketches as a part of his design process and depict the way his sketches were brought to life. For the exhibit, 150 of Lagerfeld’s designs will be presented alongside their original sketches.

This Met Gala will be a true celebration of Lagerfeld’s legacy, we can’t wait to see the way attendees honour his work.

How To Choose The Right Cleanser For Your Skin Type – Latest In Beauty Blog

Cleansing is the first and most important step in your skincare routine. So it’s important to pick the right cleanser that suits your skin type. While all facial cleansers ultimately do the same thing for your skin; getting rid of dirt, dead skin cells and makeup, each one can offer various benefits.

When picking a cleanser, it’s essential to use a cleanser that suits your skin type. Follow our tips below to help you choose the right cleanser for your skin type.

For sensitive skin

If you have sensitive or irritated skin, go for a cleanser that gently cleanses your skin and doesn’t aggravate your skin barrier.

Try a cleanser like our Haul of Fame bareMinerals’ Pureness Gel Cleanser. This cleanser is formulated with only 15 ingredients and is ideal for sensitive skin. This nourishing cleanser soothes sensitive skin while effectively removing makeup and impurities without stripping the skin.

For oily skin

oily cleanser

Those with oily skin should opt for cleansers, such as gel cleansers, that help purify the skin and regulate sebum production. If you have an oily complexion, choose a cleanser that will help tackle excessive shine or greasiness. Be careful of using cleansers that overly strip your skin of its natural oils as this can do more harm than good.

Oily skin types are also more prone to breakouts so if you have acne-prone skin, use a salicylic acid-based cleanser daily to help unclog pores and get rid of excess oil.

For dry skin

2

For dry skin, choose a cream cleanser packed with nourishing and moisturising ingredients. Cream cleansers gently cleanse your skin and leave your skin moisturised. It’s best to avoid cleansers that strip or dry out your skin as this could lead to dry, flaky or irritated skin.

How to Plop Your Curls, According to a Pro

Some hair techniques are universal. For example, no matter if your hair is straight, curly, wavy or coily, applying shampoo and conditioner is pretty much the same across the board. But when it comes to washing, drying and styling our tresses, those of us with curly hair know there’s a whole lot of effort, planning and preparation that goes into getting bouncy, flawless spirals. No, we don’t just wake up like this (most days, at least).

One of the most popular drying techniques for curly hair right now is plopping. While the name may be strange, it really is like magic for wavy, curly and coily strands, and it works no matter if you have a short or long hairstyle. The trend took TikTok by storm, with videos amassing up to millions of views.

This content is imported from Tiktok. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

If you’re not familiar with plopping or you just need some help on where to start, look no further. We tapped a curly hair expert to get the ins and outs of how to plop hair.

First, what is plopping?

Plopping is a drying method used to keep curls intact before or after styling curly hair, says Mia Emilio, hairstylist at Rezo Salon in New York City. “Plopping uses a T-shirt or microfiber towel to keep curls defined while removing excess water from the hair before air-drying or diffusing.” Bonus: It’s also a great way to get sopping wet hair off of your neck and shoulders while you’re getting dressed or working around the house.

This content is imported from Tiktok. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

When is the best time to plop hair?

Emilio recommends plopping after product application, whether it be hair gel, mousse or any other leave-in product. But those with fine hair may want to plop before applying products to remove excess water that’s weighing the hair down. Like most things with curly hair, you’ll have to experiment to see what gives you the result you love most.

Okay, so how do you plop curly hair?

  1. Wash and condition hair. The first step to proper plopping is the standard shampoo and conditioning session. Choose your favorite formulas and try leaving in a small amount of the conditioner, just enough for a smooth, slippery feel to the hair, Emilio suggests. This will add moisture and help act as a primer to your styling products.
  2. Carefully start to dry your curls after showering. When you step out of the shower, your hair will feel extremely wet, but don’t start wringing the water out yet, she says. Instead, flip your head upside down and gently shake your head from side to side without touching your curls. This will get rid of excess water without manipulating the curl pattern. “Hair should be damp, not soaking wet, before plopping,” explains Cristina Bosque, a hairstylist at Rita Hazan Salon in New York City.
  3. Grab your styling products. Dispense a blob of your favorite gel, curl cream and/or leave-in conditioner into your hands and glide them over the curls, dispersing evenly. “Next, scrunch the ends up to your roots, squeezing out all that extra water at the same time,” Emilio advises. The gentle scrunching will help tighten your curl pattern, Bosque adds. At this point, you should start to see your spirals becoming really defined.
  4. Plop hair with a microfiber towel or T-shirt. Place a short sleeve T-shirt or microfiber towel on your bed or countertop and gently rest your hair on top of it. “Then, pull the shirt or towel over the nape of your neck, criss cross it towards the front of your head and flip it up gently,” Emilio says, and violà! You’ve plopped your hair.
  5. Leave hair plopped between 15 and 45 minutes, Emilio says. And yes, “some people even sleep with their hair plopped overnight,” she adds. It may require some trial and error to find out what works best for you, and it also depends on your curl type. You’ll want to choose the timeframe that gives you bouncy, strong curls, not flat, smashed ones. Those with “very curly, frizzy textures may not want to plop their hair for as long so that there is less shrinkage,” Bosque adds.

Pro tip: For best results, make sure to keep the plop loose enough that your curls aren’t crushed, but tight enough that it doesn’t fall off your head, Emilio notes.

Can I plop wavy hair?

Wavy hair can be plopped just like curly hair. Follow the same steps as above to embrace your natural wave.

Can I plop 3C or 4C hair?

You can definitely try it and see if it works for your tighter curls, but Bosque doesn’t advise it. “I would instead diffuse on low heat for maximum results,” she explains. No matter how you decide to dry your hair, she recommends using a microfiber towel to help manage frizz.

Can I plop straight hair?

In general, plopping only applies to curly hair, but the process “is good for people who need a little added curl or more texture,” explains Bosque, which means that people with straight hair that want more texture can certainly try plopping.

Emilio says plopping your hair is similar in method to using a towel turban after getting out of the shower. A T-shirt or microfiber towel is recommended for plopping rather than a terrycloth or cotton towel because traditional towels are too thick and rough on fragile curls. “They create too much friction which leads to frizz,” Emilio says.

How often should I plop my hair?

The point of plopping is to speed up the drying process of the hair and to keep the curl shape as defined and frizz-free as possible. So, hair pros agree it’s totally fine to plop every time you wash and style your hair.

Kate Middleton braves the January weather in a stylish tartan coat

The Prince and Princess of Wales were back to royal duties on Thursday, and the couple paid a visit to Royal Liverpool University Hospital to thank those working in healthcare and mental health support during the winter months.

Kate Middleton looked as stylish as ever, sporting a smart navy midi dress from one of her favourite fashion brands (opens in new tab), Cefinn. The Princess paired the dress with a matching navy belt and navy heels, but her tartan coat stole the show.

The double breasted coat (opens in new tab) is from Holland Cooper, and it’s still available to buy. It features a longline, relaxed silhouette with a smart collar and statement gold buttons.

Kate finished off the look with a dark green handbag from Mulberry, and wore her brunette hair in her signature waves. As for make-up, the royal kept things simple with a subtle eyeshadow look and a glossy lip.
