Laura Harrier just made chocolate brown the colour of the season on the Saint Laurent FROW

There’s something incredibly elegant about tonal dressing, the styling trick of wearing one colour from head to toe, but this week Laura Harrier took it to the next level, by not only tapping into the tonal dressing trend but also by opting for one of the most expensive looking hues of the season: chocolate brown.

It’s officially knit dress season. These are the chicest styles to shop now to ace transitional dressing

Look for styles that incorporate ribbing into the design, like Lana’s corset style for an expensive feel. Off White is great at this but you can also find more subtle versions from brands like Cult Gaia, Jacquemus and even H&M on the high street. 

If ribbed styles aren’t for you, cut-out knit dresses or sheer thinner knits are also a great option for more dressed up occasions. Christopher Esber is currently leading the way with stylish cutouts, and his knitted maxi style is no different. Pair with metallic accessories to complete the look.  

As we know, right now the weather isn’t always playing ball, but that doesn’t mean you have to ditch your knit dress if the sun does decide to shine. We’d argue sleeveless styles are even more versatile than traditional long sleeve iterations: you can simply add a blazer or boxy jacket if the chill does set in. First launched in 2018, Alexander McQueen’s rectangular jewelled satchel bag has been reinvented a few times since its inception, with bold cross-body straps, different hardware additions and varied fabrications, appearing in several different combinations.

Though, throughout all of this reimaging, the one element that has remained constant is the item’s distinctive four-ring feature. Also seen on the Jewelled Hobo bag below, this hardware has become a hallmark of McQueen’s accessories.

As the brand describes, the knuckle feature was first introduced by McQueen himself and was inspired by London street culture, created to “juxtapose urban toughness with the beauty and refinement of jewellery.” Each duster has four rings, which are topped with contrasting symbols, including two skulls placed alongside a crystal and a flower-covered design. 

Over the years, these symbols have all become synonymous with Alexander McQueen’s collection, though none more prominently than the skull motif. 

As an element in McQueen’s creations, the skull symbol can be traced back as early as 1992, when the designer used the feature in his Central Saint Martins graduate collection entitled, ‘Jack the Ripper Stalks His Victims.’ The skull motif has since become a part of the brand’s house codes, used across everything from scarves to jewellery and handbags.

With a little research, it becomes clear McQueen’s accessories are more than just bags. Not for the faint of heart, McQueen’s Jewelled Hobo and Biker Satchell bag should be carried by those intent on making a statement.

Outfit ‘sandwiching’ is TikTok’s latest time-saving dressing hack to go viral

It’s not often that I get to mix my three favourite things: food, fashion and TikTok. So, on the rare occasion that I do, I absolutely love it. 

In this instance, we are looking at TikTok’s latest styling hack ‘sandwich’ dressing. The term has circulated for a while and has been a hit amongst fashion bloggers and styling experts alike. Recently, it has made its way to the app’s #styletok users,  who are dubbing it the perfect solution for those ‘I have nothing to wear moments’—perfect for those of us looking to continue exploring our capsule wardrobes. 

What is Outfit ‘Sandwiching’?

But don’t worry, it doesn’t have anything to do with food. Outfit sandwiching is nothing but a simple formula to elevate monochromatic looks all year round—not very delicious, but equally as satisfying. 

Let’s break it down. The concept of this formula is to choose your preferred colour as your outfit’s ‘bread’ and use it as the pillar of your outfit. The ‘filling’ of your look will then consist of a different coloured item and will be sandwiched with the first colour as your second piece of ‘bread’. Still with me? For those wanting to take it an extra step further, you can also play with using different prints, fabrics, and textures as your outfit’s ‘bread’.

How to try outfit ‘Sandwiching’?

First things first, choose your ‘bread’ and your ‘filling’. If you’re in need of some inspiration, celebs like Hailey Bieber, Dua Lipa and a recent favourite, Lily Allen , have been switching up their summer wardrobes by sandwiching in different coloured elements to amp up their monochromatic looks. 

You can start off with a black top, straight-leg jeans, and a simple pair of black flats. Easy! 

Once you have this basic formula sorted, you can branch out and choose other contrasting colours that could help elevate your look with accessories.
