Laura Harrier just made chocolate brown the colour of the season on the Saint Laurent FROW

There’s something incredibly elegant about tonal dressing, the styling trick of wearing one colour from head to toe, but this week Laura Harrier took it to the next level, by not only tapping into the tonal dressing trend but also by opting for one of the most expensive looking hues of the season: chocolate brown.

Arguably one of the most underrated tones, we’re predicting it’s going to be everywhere this Autumn Winter, replacing classic black and tan shades as your new staple hue. Why? Not only is chocolate brown understated yet rich looking, but it also gives off a sense of cosiness, ideal for when the weather starts to turn. Plus, it was spotted on the AW catwalks of designers including Coach, Giorgio Armani and Loewe, to name a few, so we predict big things for it for the season ahead.

If you’re looking for proof, look no further than Laura Harrier’s outfit for the Saint Laurent show recently. While her sheer vest and skirt combo may seem risque, the chocolate hue feels less harsh than classic black, giving a sultry feel that still feels chic enough for daytime events. Plus, by adding a patent textured trench coat in the same rich tone, she not only adds interest to her outfit but also elevates it to the next level.

And, of course, no tonal look is complete without matching accessories too, and her simple belt and court heels are the perfect quiet luxury finishing touches to an ultra stylish look.

And, Harrier’s not the only one who’s been opting for chocolate tones. At the Ferragamo show in Milan earlier this month model Bianca Balti went for an equally as luxe yet more relaxed look in the same dark brown shade. Her loose-fit shirt and trouser combo, paired with court heels and a contrasting bag, feels fresh yet timeless, making it perfect for the season ahead.

Your autumn accessories just got an upgrade thanks to this quiet luxury bag collection

Marie Claire UK created this content as part of a paid partnership with Aspinal of London. The contents of this article are entirely independent and solely reflect the editorial opinion of Marie Claire UK.

For a handbag to earn a space in my collection it needs to tick three boxes: it has to look elegant, work with a multitude of outfits and feature quality craftsmanship to ensure it will last for years to come. When it comes to achieving this criteria, there’s one brand that always hits the mark and their latest collection may just be their best yet. I’m talking about Aspinal of London and their newly launched, Woven Collection.

The 42-piece collection, which includes everything from work-ready totes and chic clutch bags to coordinating accessories in the form of gloves, scarves and purses, builds upon Aspinal of London’s signature style while also elevating it to the next level, to create one of a kind pieces that you’ll find yourself excited to reach for each day.

Woven by hand using the brand’s signature luxury leather, the collection features three distinctive weave patterns, each offering a unique look and feel. From the more traditional pebble weave to the statement houndstooth print, it’s easy to find a design to suit all styles, moods and occasions, while also still ensuring the sophisticated, quiet-luxury look Aspinal of London are known for.

As well as the distinctive weave design, each piece in the collection is tied together through a chic neutral colour palette of tan, navy, ivory and black. Not only does this ensure they work effortlessly together but it will also allow them to fit seamlessly into your wardrobe as the perfect capsule accessories collection.

Wondering which styles to treat yourself to first? The redesigned Hobo bag is a classic for a reason and will be the perfect companion for weekend day trips or busy days running errands. The evening clutch, available in houndstooth and classic black, will quickly become your go-to once Christmas party season rolls around, and, for days at the office, the London tote is roomy enough to fit all the essentials, including a laptop.

Looking to upgrade your transitional wardrobe? These new collections will have you covered for all occasions

Marie Claire UK created this content as part of a paid partnership with Phase Eight. The contents of this article are entirely independent and solely reflect the editorial opinion of Marie Claire UK.

While we all may be feeling woeful that summer didn’t stick around for long, the change in seasons isn’t all bad news. Autumn marks the return of cosy evenings, warming comfort food and, most excitingly for any fashion lover, the chance to refresh your wardrobe and transition into new season style. It’s time to say goodbye  to summer dresses and sandals as they’re replaced by super soft knitwear, stylish outerwear and autumn approved fabrics like buttery leather and sumptuous velvet, something that I’m definitely excited about.

If this year you’ve found yourself wanting to refresh your wardrobe ready for the new season, Phase Eight has got you covered with two new collections that are perfect for every occasion, from sophisticated day wear to elegant evening events. Plus, the pieces are designed to not only look great alone, but they also work harmoniously together, to create a capsule wardrobe you can reach for and return to time and time again.

For chic pieces that you can wear everywhere from the office to after work drinks, Phase Eight’s Fluid Landscapes collection is the answer. Inspired by the colours and movement of the Irish landscape, the ready-to-wear collection feels effortless while still giving a polished put-together look. Blending a colour palette of blues, greens, burgundy and warm neutrals, the pieces are sure to bring a touch of freshness to your traditional autumn winter wardrobe while still mirroring the mood of the season.

My favourite pick is the Sky Printed Maxi Dress, which nods to the 70’s trend thanks to the statement print, balloon sleeves and soft, flowing skirt. When paired with pointed ankle boots and a tailored coat, it’ll create the perfect smart-casual work look, then re-work it with barely there heels and a crossbody bag for dinner and drinks.

If you’re lucky enough to be heading to a winter wedding or event, you need to check out the Phase Eight Plant House Paradise collection. Reflecting the changing season, it brings together dark, moody florals with rich velvets and soft satins, for a collection that screams opulence.

Sheer styles reign supreme among the LFW street style set

Temperatures may be dropping but that didn’t stop those in attendance at London Fashion Week from daring to show some skin as they took to the FROW for all the major designers SS24 collections.

From tulle fabrics to barely-there lace and peek-a-boo metallic styles, less was most definitely more, with many opting for sheer midi and maxi dresses to channel the spring summer stylings on the catwalks. And, while the sun may have only made a sporadic appearance, most didn’t let it stop them, choosing to pair their dresses with tights and autumn approved boots to add an extra element to their looks.

Underneath, minimalist underwear added an air of sophistication with nude and black shades creating contrast against bold dresses. If you’re wondering how best to wear a sheer dress, this is a great lesson in how to layer them successfully, as high waisted briefs and simple t-shirt bras will ensure the perfect amount of coverage without compromising on the overall look and feel of the outfit.

We found the best satin skirts to prove it’s the perfect addition to your autumn wardrobe

There are few styles of clothing that work harder than the satin slip skirt – and it’s really having a moment right now. According to the LTK app, searches for silky midi skirts have increased by 92% in the past month – and it’s easy to see why.

As someone whose job it is to search through the new-in sections of the best clothing shops for a living, I’ve come across some truly stunning slip skirt styles recently. And while it’s about as on-trend as it gets right now, the style itself remains incredibly timeless thanks to its sleek and simple silhouette.

While the endlessly versatile design easily transcends seasons, IMO, it really comes into its own during autumn. It’s so incredibly easy to layer, making it the perfect piece to grab when you don’t know if you’ll be encountering rain or sun on any given day (so pretty much every day between now and November). Its versatility makes it the ideal addition to your suitcase when travelling too – I packed one for a recent trip to Amsterdam and wore it 3 different ways over a 4-day trip.

When it comes to styling, you can tuck in a plain tee or slouchy jumper for an effortlessly elevated look, or pair it with an oversized shirt, trench coat or blazer for extra layers as the weather cools down. It also pairs beautifully with a bodysuit if it’s a sleek silhouette you’re after, and can be dressed up with strappy heels, down with your favourite trainers, or somewhere between the two with some Mary Jane flats.

Basically, the styling opportunities are endless, so along with your best jeans, a classic white tee, and other key items, it’ll be a welcome addition to your capsule autumn wardrobe. There are some stunning new-in styles out there that I simply had to share with you. From high street to high end, here are the very best satin slip skirt styles for you to shop right now.

Back to business: the trend to wear in the office and beyond

Call corporate and file this one under wearable trends. For Autumn/Winter 2023, designers decided to celebrate the career woman by putting the focus firmly back onto workwear.

Classic styles such as pinstripe suits, shirts and ties have been re-imagined for this season’s modern woman, and make no mistake, they are anything but boring.

Sofia Richie Grainge just stepped out in Mary Jane flats, which further proves they’re the It-shoe of the season

It’s officially autumn (although the weather might not necessarily agree right now) and that means one thing – it’s time to start transitioning your wardrobe to reflect the colder season ahead.

Attentions turn to our capsule wardrobe and making the necessary adjustments. Out with the summer dresses and in with layers – preferably one of the best trench coats. You’ll also want to consider keeping things fresh with the addition of a new piece. And, if there’s one trend in particular that we think will stand the test of time, it’s the Mary Jane flat.

It’s no secret that flat shoes spiked in popularity this year with ballet flats become omnipresent over summer, but now it’s time for an autumn friendly alternative – the Mary Jane flat.

The shoe style isn’t exactly new, but rather a modern twist on the classic heeled shape, characterised by the smooth, simple closed-toe design and trademark bar fastening across the foot.  In short, it’s a laid-back yet still effortlessly elegant take on autumn footwear.

And we’re clearly not the only ones who think so. Celebs can’t get enough of the trend at the moment, with Sofia Richie Grainge recently stepping out in the perfect early autumn combo of a floaty Prada nightgown and a pair of Le Monde Beryl brown velvet flat Mary Janes.

15 beautiful trench coats you

There is no more hardworking piece in your wardrobe than the trench coat. It’s lightweight, ideal for layering in the unpredictable British weather, and versatile, throwable over everything from a tracksuit to a slinky dress.

And while sales for trench coats are skyrocketing right now, it’s been a staple in the fashion industry for decades. First created for the military in World War One as a lighter and waterproof alternative to heavy army coats, it has never strayed too far from its roots.

You’ll still find flap pockets, epaulettes, storm flaps and double-breasted pockets on most designs today, but that’s not to say it hasn’t been re-imagined with a fresh twist for the autumn/winter 23 season.

The original purveyor of the trench coat, Burberry, sees the style updated with fur trims and pops of colour under the helm of Daniel Lee. Meanwhile at Chloe, Gabriela Hearst plays with textures and bold prints, with a striped yellow, white and black style stealing the show. I also love Acne’s western spin on the humble trench.

Everyone’s seeing red this season, quite literally. Scarlet hues were spotted everywhere on the catwalk from Stella McCartney to Prada and Nensi Dojaka, and a trench coat is the perfect way to embrace the trend. The Row and H&M have some great styles to indulge for all budgets.

If it’s longevity you’re after, then of course there are plenty of more classic styles to be bought. For chic yet budget-friendly options, ARKET and COS are my go-to. I have a black leather trench from the former that I wear season after season, the ultimate investment piece. If budget is no issue, then designer labels Theory and Max Mara are known for their classic coats.

That’s not to say you shouldn’t think outside the box, playing around with texture – leather, denim and silk – and colour and print.

I could spend all day waxing lyrical about the trench coat, but instead I’ll leave you here with my edit of the best ones to shop right now.
