Temperatures may be dropping but that didn’t stop those in attendance at London Fashion Week from daring to show some skin as they took to the FROW for all the major designers SS24 collections.
From tulle fabrics to barely-there lace and peek-a-boo metallic styles, less was most definitely more, with many opting for sheer midi and maxi dresses to channel the spring summer stylings on the catwalks. And, while the sun may have only made a sporadic appearance, most didn’t let it stop them, choosing to pair their dresses with tights and autumn approved boots to add an extra element to their looks.
Underneath, minimalist underwear added an air of sophistication with nude and black shades creating contrast against bold dresses. If you’re wondering how best to wear a sheer dress, this is a great lesson in how to layer them successfully, as high waisted briefs and simple t-shirt bras will ensure the perfect amount of coverage without compromising on the overall look and feel of the outfit.
If you want to add some sheer delight to your autumn winter wardrobe, or just want to get ready for when the weather warms up again, we’ve rounded up the best sheer pieces to shop right now. Whether you opt for a party-ready metallic dress, ideal for when Christimas invites start arriving in the not too distant future, or a sheer shirt, perfect for pairing with straight leg jeans for a chic take on jeans and nice top, there are some incredible pieces available right now. There are few styles of clothing that work harder than the satin slip skirt – and it’s really having a moment right now. According to the LTK app, searches for silky midi skirts have increased by 92% in the past month – and it’s easy to see why.
As someone whose job it is to search through the new-in sections of the best clothing shops for a living, I’ve come across some truly stunning slip skirt styles recently. And while it’s about as on-trend as it gets right now, the style itself remains incredibly timeless thanks to its sleek and simple silhouette.
While the endlessly versatile design easily transcends seasons, IMO, it really comes into its own during autumn. It’s so incredibly easy to layer, making it the perfect piece to grab when you don’t know if you’ll be encountering rain or sun on any given day (so pretty much every day between now and November). Its versatility makes it the ideal addition to your suitcase when travelling too – I packed one for a recent trip to Amsterdam and wore it 3 different ways over a 4-day trip.
Basically, the styling opportunities are endless, so along with your best jeans, a classic white tee, and other key items, it’ll be a welcome addition to your capsule autumn wardrobe. There are some stunning new-in styles out there that I simply had to share with you. From high street to high end, here are the very best satin slip skirt styles for you to shop right now.
Shop the best satin slip skirts
M&S Satin Midaxi Slip Skirt
This midi satin skirt comes in a beautifully seasonal chocolate brown. Pair it with a T-shirt and sandals now and knee-high boots and a chunky knit as the weather cools down.
ARKET Maxi Satin Slip Skirt
I adore the taupe tone of this maxi satin skirt – it’ll pair perfectly with grey and beige accents, and the maxi style is very on-trend right now.
You simply can’t go wrong with a black satin maxi skirt. It will go with pretty much everything in your wardrobe, but I’d suggest a striped jumper for a sleek monochromatic look.
Mint Velvet Midi Satin Slip Skirt
This pale grey skirt is the ideal piece to pair with cream knitwear for a chic autumnal look.
Incorporating a deep red piece into your wardrobe is an easy way to make a statement while still feeling really sophisticated – case in point: this burgundy satin maxi skirt. It also looks far more expensive than it actually is.
This slip skirt from Ghost comes in the most refreshing cornflower blue shade.
Nobody’s Child Midi Slip Skirt
I’m a huge fan of the terracotta tone of this midi slip skirt. It pairs just as well with Birkenstock Bostons as it does chunky boots, making it the perfect transitional weather piece.
This midi skirt is cut on the bias to create a flattering, slightly fluted shape.
Nobody’s Child Maxi Slip Skirt
This black maxi skirt from Nobody’s child has a slightly slouchier fit than the style above – perfect for more casual pairings like T-shirts and trainers.
Vince Crinkle-Satin Midi Skirt
Add a sophisticated pop of colour to your look with this burnt orange crinkle-effect satin skirt. It feels both playful and elevated – the perfect combo for your autumn wardrobe, if you ask me.
& Other Stories A-Line Midi Skirt
This statement blue A-line skirt will never fail to capture the eye but still remains really timeless thanks to its classic shape.
Finery Evelyn Black Geo Satin Skirt
Finally, if you love a bold print this skirt from Finery is the perfect choice for you. The monochromatic finish makes for a sleek-yet-statement-making look.

Although it seems like an afterthought that you throw on whilst leaving the house, the coat is the item of clothing that you’ll never regret buying. A good quality coat is one that will see you season after season, and it’s also the perfect way to dip into this season’s trends as see in at the fashion capitals of the world.
Here’s what you need to know about autumn/winter 23’s coat trends.
Autumn/Winter 2023 coat trends
In New York, London, Paris and Milan, the catwalk was all about wearable trends, and the black coat was top of the agenda. While it’s never really gone out of the style, this season it is reimagined in a longline silhouette, and with exaggerated shoulders, as seen at Victoria Beckham, Givenchy and Alexander McQueen.
Short tailored hourglass styles, a chic update on the peplum trend, were de rigueur at Versace, Bottega Veneta and Miu Miu, paired with pencil skirts and slimline trousers. A great outerwear option for the office.
Faux fur coats are the perfect way to keep snug during the colder months, and they’ve been given a makeover by the likes of Stella McCartney, Zimmermann, Coperni and Hermes. Think on-the-nose animal prints and bold colours like hot pink and lilac.
Sporty outerwear is still going strong for AW23, whether that’s the oversized puffer at Chloe and Dior or the zip-front parka at Jil Sander.
If you’re going to invest in one fabric this season, make it leather. Timeless in both look and design, the leather coat cropped all over the shows, from Louis Vuitton to Lanvin and Loewe. Tick two trends in one go by shopping a black, belted leather coat.
Of course, it goes without saying, that each year the tried-and-tested camel coat is updated slightly to align with the key trends of the season, and this time is no exception.
Keep scrolling to shop the best coats available this winter.
The best winter coats to shop now:
CHLOÉ Quilted leather down jacket
If you’re looking for a slightly dressier take on the puffer coat trend, look no further than this Chloe jacket.
Totême’s scarf jacket has been a sell-out item for the label season after season and a hit with the fashion crowd. You won’t regret buying this one.
MAX MARA Teddy double-breasted regular-fit alpaca wool and silk-blend coat
If you’re going down the faux fur route this season then you might as well go bold. This pink Max Mara alpaca wool and silk-blend coat is guaranteed to make you stand out.
BALENCIAGA Leo hourglass-waist faux-fur coat
This leopard print coat channels Balenciaga’s signature love of sculptural silhouettes and is the perfect way to embrace this season’s hourglass shape.
I bought a similar leather belted coat at Arket a few years ago and it’s one of the best items of clothing I’ve ever bought. This updated version is bound to be a sell-out, and even better, it’s made of chrome-free leather.
Oversizew rounded wool coat
This is a subtle update on the camel coat trend if you love your neutrals. It’s made from a premium recycled-wool blend and has a subtle herringbone weave that adds texture to it.
LOULOU STUDIO + NET SUSTAIN striped double-breasted organic wool and cashmere-blend coat
Business attired made a huge comeback on the AW23 after seasons of embracing all things casual, and this organic wool and cashmere coat is the embodiment of it.
Cropped shearling jaclket
The classic aviator jacket gets a luxe makeover for autumn thanks to a rich chocolate shade and buttery boucle shearling.
Double-breasted virgin wool coat
The camel coat never goes out of style, but it doesn’t mean it can’t be a little bit trend-led. We love to oversized silhouette and exaggerated shoulders on this premium Mango coat.
This puffer is a great way to add a pop of colour to your outfit. Pair it with this season’s low-rise jeans and western boots.

Call corporate and file this one under wearable trends. For Autumn/Winter 2023, designers decided to celebrate the career woman by putting the focus firmly back onto workwear.
Classic styles such as pinstripe suits, shirts and ties have been re-imagined for this season’s modern woman, and make no mistake, they are anything but boring.
At Paris Fashion Week earlier this year, Maria Grazia Chiuri sent models down the catwalk wearing crisp shirts with thin ties, paired with frilly skirts and Mary-Jane shoes. Meanwhile at Saint Laurent, models stood out in oversized pinstripe blazers teamed with short skirts, signalling the return of the skirt suit.
While suits were oversized at Saint Laurent, at Versace they were the opposite. They celebrated the female form thanks to a fit-and-flare cut mimicking an hourglass figure.
At Valentino, men’s shirts were teamed with ultra-short minis in bold red to toe the line between the masculine and the feminine. In London, TOVE designers Camille Perry & Holly Wright put the spotlight on fluid silk maxi dresses in butter tones, as well as blazers that were nipped-in at waist.
Christopher Kane and Eudon Choi re-imagined the understated shirt dress by adding pops of colour, exaggerated shoulders and pleated details.
This is just to name a few. Workwear staples were to be seen at pretty much every designer show, from Prada and Alexander McQueen to Michael Kors and Christopher Kane, Gabriela Hearst and Max Mara.
What makes this trend hyper wearable is that it includes forever pieces that can be worn together for a more corporate look, or mixed and matched with more casual items for when you’re off duty.
Shop the trend with the back-to-work pieces below.
The Frankie Shop Annie necktie shirt
The Frankie Shop’s necktie shirt comes in several colours and already has a waitlist. You can wear it with or without the tie.
Wear this oversized blazer over a silk dress in the office and jeans and a white t-shirt outside of it.
Team this leopard-print blouse with a leather or denim pencil skirt for a fresh twist on office-wear.
A tailored dress will always be a workwear staple, but you can dress it down with chunky trainers and an oversized cardigan outside of the office too.
If you invest in one accessory this season, make it the Prada tie: a cult item in the making that will instantly elevate any neckline.
A cowl neck and short silhouette give the pinstripe dress a sexy twist. Pair with this season’s key shoe style: the Mary Jane.
LAPOINTE Feather-trimmed satin midi shirt dress
There’s nothing boring about this shirt dress. LAPOINTE adorns this workwear staple with feathers to make sure you stand out in the boardroom.
Combine two of autumn/winter’s major trends with these red suit trousers from H&M.

It’s officially autumn (although the weather might not necessarily agree right now) and that means one thing – it’s time to start transitioning your wardrobe to reflect the colder season ahead.
Attentions turn to our capsule wardrobe and making the necessary adjustments. Out with the summer dresses and in with layers – preferably one of the best trench coats. You’ll also want to consider keeping things fresh with the addition of a new piece. And, if there’s one trend in particular that we think will stand the test of time, it’s the Mary Jane flat.
It’s no secret that flat shoes spiked in popularity this year with ballet flats become omnipresent over summer, but now it’s time for an autumn friendly alternative – the Mary Jane flat.
The shoe style isn’t exactly new, but rather a modern twist on the classic heeled shape, characterised by the smooth, simple closed-toe design and trademark bar fastening across the foot. In short, it’s a laid-back yet still effortlessly elegant take on autumn footwear.
And we’re clearly not the only ones who think so. Celebs can’t get enough of the trend at the moment, with Sofia Richie Grainge recently stepping out in the perfect early autumn combo of a floaty Prada nightgown and a pair of Le Monde Beryl brown velvet flat Mary Janes.
The on-trend shoe is incredibly easy to style as it adds a chic, off-duty feel to any look. Whether you choose to dress them up with maxi dresses and skirts, pair them with denim and oversized tailoring, or go for a classic back-to-school look complete with a mini skirt and high-ankle socks, you can be sure that they’ll go with just about everything in your wardrobe.
Aside from Richie Grainge, other fans include Alexa Chung, Dakota Johnson, and Jenna Coleman – we don’t really need any further persuasion that this will be the It-shoe style to monopolise our feeds over the coming months. So of course we’ve rounded up our top Mary Jane flat picks for you to peruse (including Sofia’s style of choice) below.

There is no more hardworking piece in your wardrobe than the trench coat. It’s lightweight, ideal for layering in the unpredictable British weather, and versatile, throwable over everything from a tracksuit to a slinky dress.
And while sales for trench coats are skyrocketing right now, it’s been a staple in the fashion industry for decades. First created for the military in World War One as a lighter and waterproof alternative to heavy army coats, it has never strayed too far from its roots.
You’ll still find flap pockets, epaulettes, storm flaps and double-breasted pockets on most designs today, but that’s not to say it hasn’t been re-imagined with a fresh twist for the autumn/winter 23 season.
The original purveyor of the trench coat, Burberry, sees the style updated with fur trims and pops of colour under the helm of Daniel Lee. Meanwhile at Chloe, Gabriela Hearst plays with textures and bold prints, with a striped yellow, white and black style stealing the show. I also love Acne’s western spin on the humble trench.
Everyone’s seeing red this season, quite literally. Scarlet hues were spotted everywhere on the catwalk from Stella McCartney to Prada and Nensi Dojaka, and a trench coat is the perfect way to embrace the trend. The Row and H&M have some great styles to indulge for all budgets.
If it’s longevity you’re after, then of course there are plenty of more classic styles to be bought. For chic yet budget-friendly options, ARKET and COS are my go-to. I have a black leather trench from the former that I wear season after season, the ultimate investment piece. If budget is no issue, then designer labels Theory and Max Mara are known for their classic coats.
That’s not to say you shouldn’t think outside the box, playing around with texture – leather, denim and silk – and colour and print.
I could spend all day waxing lyrical about the trench coat, but instead I’ll leave you here with my edit of the best ones to shop right now.
This two-tone trench, made from gabardine with a drawcord collar, is Isabel Marant’s modern and sporty take on the wardrobe staple.
THE ROW Badva hooded coated linen-blend trench coat
There’s nothing subtle about The Row’s red trench, featuring a removable hood with long panels. It’s made from a lightweight yet durable linen-blend fabric.
STAND STUDIO Katharina faux patent-leather trench coat
This faux-patent leather coat by Stand is a perfect example of how to do colour the subtle way. You can wear it belted for that fit-and-flare fit.
Checked utility trench coat
Combining classic details with a contemporary checked print, this trench has all the makings of an everlasting piece.
A classic trench updated with a denim twist, it’s meant to be worn long and with a belt for a flattering fit.
This trench coat stands out thanks to its burnt orange hue and puff sleeves which give it a feminine feel.
Alexander McQueen A-line pleated trench coat
This Alexander McQueen coat is a work of art. Reminiscent of film noir stars, it can be worn as a dress in its own right, or layered over jeans and a cashmere knit.
BA&SH turn the classic trench on its head by giving it a sporty makeover. I love the hood and gathered detailing.
Black leather trench coat
This is on the pricier side of ARKET’s offering – which also includes classic beige styles in cotton and linen. However as I mentioned before, I own a previous iteration of this style and I can vouch for its durability both in quality and timeless design.
No one does classic wardrobe basics like M&S, and while there’s nothing basic about this khaki trench, it’ll slot seamlessly into your forever wardrobe.
Nelson Cotton Trench Coat
Jigsaw has re-issued its classic trench coat this season with a sleeker, more oversized fit. It advises to take a size down your usual one.
Zara’s TRF denim trench coat pays homage to the staple’s military origins thanks to its high neck with a tab and metal buckle.

Talk about a throwback.
It’s been almost impossible to miss, from Instagram feeds to IRL (be it on trains, at the pub or just generally throughout the streets of London) cargo trousers are back in a big way. Between Hailey Bieber, Bella Hadid, and Paloma Elsesser, It-girls by the dozen are investing in the Y2K-inspired utility trend, and going all in on its low-rise waist and oversize silhouette.
Fast forward a year and cargo trousers are not going anywhere, in fact, they have made their way into cargo skirts, cargo jeans and parachute pants. Celebs and fellow It-girls are balancing out the look by pairing the voluminous trousers, alongside cropped tops or shrunken tees, in yet another styling trick inspired by the early aughts.
Of course, the trend’s resurgence is not purely anecdotal. Searches for women’s cargo trousers in the UK have risen 83% over the last 12 months, while the hashtag #cargopants has over three billion views on TikTok. (For context, this was at 560 million views this time last year).
As far as labels leading the way, Jaded London seems to be the brand of choice amongst celebrity cargo trouser connoisseurs. Kaia Gerber, Kylie Jenner and Hailey Bieber have all been spotted in items from the label. While Local European is another brand on the A-list radar. But it’s Bershka’s cargo trousers for women that go viral on TikTok and sell out in the same week.
Want to get in on the trend? Keep scrolling to shop the best cargo trousers for women below.
Vintage grey parachute cargo pants
These are the cargo trousers favoured by Kylie Jenner, Kaia Gerber and more. In fact, Jenner was seen in this exact pair earlier this week.
Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner have both been seen in trousers by this brand. The parachute shape offers a very oversize silhouette.
Tailored Utility Trousers
If you’re after a more tailored iteration of the trend, these black cargo trousers from River Island will be your best bet. Don’t forget to use our River Island discount code at checkout.

When two fashion powerhouses combine on a collection, we set our style senses on high alert for launch, and that’s exactly what we’ve been doing ever since the Gap X LoveShackFancy collaboration dropped in the US earlier this month. If, like us, you’ve been patiently counting the days (read: endlessly refreshing the Gap website) until the release date you can breathe a sigh of relief, as it’s officially launched—and it’s just as dreamy as we hoped.
Effortlessly combining the two brands’ identities, the 55-piece collection features the classic cuts that Gap is known for but with a fun LoveShackFancy twist. Think ruffled denim, ditsy floral dresses and 80’s inspired corsages on wardrobe staples like trench coats and boxy shirts.
On the collection, Rebecca Hessel Cohen Founder and Creative Director of LoveShackFancy said, “Re-imagining iconic Gap classics for all generations through our LoveShackFancy lens has been a dream. Each piece is the perfect mix of nostalgia and freshness that you’ll live in forever and won’t find anywhere else.”
As if that wasn’t enough, the collection is fronted by R&B royalty Ciara and her children Future and Sienna, which makes us need it in our wardrobes even more.
Wondering which pieces to invest in? We predict the corsage detail trench coat and the denim bustier will sell out in no time so move quickly. Or, if you’re still on the lookout for the perfect Summer wedding guest outfit, try the puff sleeve midi dress paired with cream platforms for a cottagecore feel.
