It’s officially knit dress season. These are the chicest styles to shop now to ace transitional dressing

If you’re looking for an easy way to look chic now the season’s changing, you need to add a knit dress to your wardrobe ASAP. Versatile, stylish and above all else in this current changeable weather, cosy, it’s sure to quickly become one of the hardest working items in your capsule wardrobe.

Spotted on the catwalk at Bottega Veneta, Chanel and Fendi as well as all over the high street, knit dresses are a style staple. Whether you opt for a cosy cashmere style, a figure hugging ribbed dress or tap into the sheer trend in an ultra-thin weave, a great knit dress will strike the perfect balance between easy effortless wearing while still looking elevated.

Much like summer’s hero throw-on-and-go dress styles, the knit dress is the autumn/winter equivalent, making getting dressed on cold early mornings or dark autumn nights a breeze. This time around, instead of your summer sandals, switch to block heeled boots or retro-inspired trainers (if you can brave a bare ankle, that is) and you’re good to go.

For added interest, follow the queen of quiet luxury Sofia Richie Grainge and pair a sleek dress silhouette with understated accessories. The addition of a barely-there belt to her asymmetric knit dress, both from Khaite, defines her shape without overpowering the most important piece: the knit dress.

While oversized styles always look chic, the ribbed knit dress reigns supreme for evening occasions. Lana Condor’s bold orange dress by Off White proves why, as it moulds to her shape for a figure-hugging fit. Look for styles that incorporate ribbing into the design, like Lana’s corset style for an expensive feel. Off White is great at this but you can also find more subtle versions from brands like Cult Gaia, Jacquemus and even H&M on the high street.

If ribbed styles aren’t for you, cut-out knit dresses or sheer thinner knits are also a great option for more dressed up occasions. Christopher Esber is currently leading the way with stylish cutouts, and his knitted maxi style is no different. Pair with metallic accessories to complete the look.

As we know, right now the weather isn’t always playing ball, but that doesn’t mean you have to ditch your knit dress if the sun does decide to shine. We’d argue sleeveless styles are even more versatile than traditional long sleeve iterations: you can simply add a blazer or boxy jacket if the chill does set in. Lili Reinhart’s nude style is by female-founded Trois The Brand but we’d suggest heading to Skims for something simple yet stylish at an affordable price point.

Scroll down for our edit of the best knit dresses available right now. In fact, they’re so good, that if you want to treat yourself to more than one, we won’t blame you.

Outfit ‘sandwiching’ is TikTok’s latest time-saving dressing hack to go viral

It’s not often that I get to mix my three favourite things: food, fashion and TikTok. So, on the rare occasion that I do, I absolutely love it.

In this instance, we are looking at TikTok’s latest styling hack ‘sandwich’ dressing. The term has circulated for a while and has been a hit amongst fashion bloggers and styling experts alike. Recently, it has made its way to the app’s #styletok users,  who are dubbing it the perfect solution for those ‘I have nothing to wear moments’—perfect for those of us looking to continue exploring our capsule wardrobes

What is Outfit ‘Sandwiching’?

But don’t worry, it doesn’t have anything to do with food. Outfit sandwiching is nothing but a simple formula to elevate monochromatic looks all year round—not very delicious, but equally as satisfying.

Let’s break it down. The concept of this formula is to choose your preferred colour as your outfit’s ‘bread’ and use it as the pillar of your outfit. The ‘filling’ of your look will then consist of a different coloured item and will be sandwiched with the first colour as your second piece of ‘bread’. Still with me? For those wanting to take it an extra step further, you can also play with using different prints, fabrics, and textures as your outfit’s ‘bread’.

Simply put by user @barbieekaay on TikTok, this method is a quick solution for those in search of a time-saving technique. Whether you’re rushing for work, looking to sustainably revamp your wardrobe, or experimenting with how to pair brighter colours (like a personal favourite, emerald).

How to try outfit ‘Sandwiching’?

First things first, choose your ‘bread’ and your ‘filling’. If you’re in need of some inspiration, celebs like Hailey Bieber, Dua Lipa and a recent favourite, Lily Allen , have been switching up their summer wardrobes by sandwiching in different coloured elements to amp up their monochromatic looks.

You can start off with a black top, straight-leg jeans, and a simple pair of black flats. Easy!

Once you have this basic formula sorted, you can branch out and choose other contrasting colours that could help elevate your look with accessories.

As expertly displayed by Hailey Bieber, an oversized leather jacket and platform loafers have ‘sandwiched’ a fluffy knit—a look she keeps in proportion by adding a chunky platform.

Tomato Girl Sandwich

For this look, we’re following the popular Tomato Girl aesthetic. Giving us all of the Mediterranean vibes we need for the summer, this look is all about throwing it back to the 1970s La Dolce Vita. We’re sandwiching a chic checkered dress in between some pearly sunnies and matching Mary Jane flats. Brava!

Quiet Luxury Girl Sandwich

For those attending festivals this summer, quiet luxury has been a hit amongst fashion IT girls during Coachella and Glastonbury. If you’re looking to sandwich 2023’s biggest aesthetic, but keen on giving it a twist, think proportions. Instead of focusing on two colours as your ‘base’ and ‘filling’, opt for tighter and oversized proportions. This will add some extra zhuzh to your silhouette, like this tight white tank top, baggy wide-leg jeans, and a fresh pouch to keep all of your essentials in place.

Coastal Cowgirl Sandwich

The coastal cowgirl aesthetic is another TikTok-adored look that mixes Western and boho pieces. Think long flowy skirts with cowboy boots and floral prints with leather belts. This aesthetic is the perfect example of a sandwich that incorporates different unconventional textures or prints in order to create a unique and chic outfit. With the outfit below, we paired a tailored corset top with a crisp flowy skirt and leather cowboy boots.

Kate Middleton’s top-to-toe blue look is a lesson in tonal dressing

If there’s one trend that makes you look instantly put-together, it’s got to be tonal dressing, so it’s no wonder the Princess of Wales opted for a top-to-toe one colour look to attend King Charles’ Scottish Coronation yesterday.

Paying homage to the Scottish flag, Kate stepped out in a Catherine Walker coat dress with a matching Philip Treacy fascinator, Emmy London heels and a clutch bag, all in the same statement blue hue proving sometimes more really is more.

Alongside her bold blue pieces, The Princess finished the look with a pearl choker, previously belonging to the late Queen Elizabeth II, and matching pearl drop earrings. Not only do these pay homage to the late Queen but they also add a touch of elegance to her look, elevating it for the occasion.

And this isn’t the first time Kate has worn the blue Catherine Walker dress. Ever the sustainable Princess, she previously wore it for the Commonwealth Day Service in 2022, where she paired it with a pillbox hat and navy accessories. While for Easter Sunday earlier this year, she contrasted the dress with a pair of nude heels and a royal rule breaking dark red manicure.

This time around however, there’s no denying the eye catching effect of wearing one colour from top-to-toe. Not only is it sure to have all eyes are on you, but it also takes the hard work out of pulling an outfit together, as by sticking to one colour palette, you can ensure an effortlessly harmonious look.

Pippa Middleton gives us a masterclass in regal dressing for the Coronation of King Charles III

Pippa Middleton looked radiant for the Coronation of King Charles III in a delightful spring ensemble that onlookers called ‘stunning’.

While the Coronation was undoubtedly a momentous moment in history, it’s the big fashion moments that have everybody talking.

From Camilla’s sartorial tribute to the Queen to Kate Middleton’s impressive headpiece and Queen Rania of Jordan’s impeccable spring outfit, the guest list truly encapsulated regal dressing at its best.

And while the Princess of Wales did steal the show with a poignant Alexander McQueen gown that paid tribute to the four nations of the UK, her sister Pippa has also been praised for her chic spring outfit – and this style is a little more occasion-wear-appropriate for the rest of us.

Pippa made a rare appearance at the event, which took place on Saturday 6th May 2023, in a Claire Mischevani ‘Alais’ coat in a pastel yellow shade, complemented perfectly by a statement matching headpiece by Jane Taylor.

It’s no surprise that the whole Middleton family were in attendance at the Coronation, given King Charles’ close relationship with Kate.

Royal fans took to Twitter to show their approval of Pippa’s outfit, with one writing, ‘A moment for Pippa Middleton’s look. Haven’t seen any better pics, but she is stunning.’

Those eagle-eyed fans of the Princess of Wales’ outfits may have noticed that the look is strikingly similar to Catherine’s outfit for Trooping the Colour back in 2019.

The former Duchess of Cambridge wore an Alexander McQueen pastel yellow dress with a matching yellow fascinator by Philip Treacy.
