Meghan Markle Takes a Page Out of Kate Middleton's Book With Latest Outfit

Get ready for another case of closet envy. Meghan Markle made a public appearance for International Women’s Day this morning with her fiancé Prince Harry, and her ensemble belongs in the dictionary under the word “chic.”

The future royal wore a $300 J.Crew two-tone wool-blend coat (now sold out of course) with Alexander Wang trousers, a jumper by All Saints, and a black Altuzarra handbag.

The former actress looked like the ultimate role model she is when greeting the “Stemettes,” a Birmingham-based group that encourages young women to pursue careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math).

Meghan’s sleek outfit blends with the polished wardrobe she’s recently shown off. This is a woman who can appreciate a pair of perfectly tailored pants, but her navy trench brought to mind another royal’s signature style. Her future sister-in-law Kate Middleton has also sported a lot of blue outerwear lately, including this bespoke coat from Jenny Packham.

The Duchess of Cambridge wore this ensemble with similar white trim just last week while visiting the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in London.

Back in January, she stepped out in another navy coat, this time from the British brand Hobbs, for a day with Place2Be, a charity that supports children and families’ mental health.

While it’s impossible to know for sure, the tailored fit and classic navy hue might have inspired Meghan to follow suit. Of course, you don’t need a royal budget to take some inspiration from these fashion icons.

This navy trench from Nordstrom is current on sale for $180:

And here’s another pick from Amazon for just $60:

This isn’t the first time the royal ladies have both worn blue. They showed up at the first annual Royal Foundation Forum last week in the same hue, but each stayed true to their equally beautiful — and distinct — styles.

This Is What Meghan Markle's First Engagement Ring Looked Like

When Prince Harry proposed to Meghan Markle, he pulled out all the stops. The royal designed a gorgeous yellow-gold band with three stones that had a significant meaning to them both. The center cushion-cut diamond came from Botswana, a favorite destination, and the two round-cut diamonds on either side once belonged to Princess Diana.

The unique pairing of cushion-cut and round diamonds is already inspiring copycats, but it’s not the first engagement ring Meghan’s ever received.

The former Suits actress once wore another diamond during her first marriage to producer Trevor Engelson. The couple, who dated for six years and stayed married for two, tied the knot on September 10, 2011, after getting engaged the previous year.

Engelson popped the question with a classic ring that appears to have a princess-cut diamond solitaire set on two, thin pavé bands.

Based on past photos, Meghan chose a slightly thicker pavé ring for the wedding ceremony, wearing some serious bling on her left hand.

For her second marriage, Meghan will likely wear a gold wedding ring instead. Four generations of royals — including the Queen Mother, the Queen, Diana, Princess of Wales, and the Duchess of Cambridge — have worn wedding bands with metal from the same Welsh gold mine. This particular mining operation just announced their reopening later this year — just in time for the next royal wedding.

This is the fashion advice that Kate Middleton has given Meghan Markle

From the editors of LOOK

We have no doubt that Kate Middleton – a seasoned royal – has been showing Meghan Markle the ropes over the past few months, with the actress explaining in her engagement interview that the Duchess of Cambridge had been ‘wonderful’.

But it seems like Kate’s advice isn’t limited to tips on etiquette and secrets for how to get on with the family, it also extends to royal fashion advice.

And on closer inspection, we can definitely tell.

While the 36-year-old Suits actress has brought a sense of millennial style to the royal family (even wearing high fashion sheer couture in her official engagement photos), if we look closely we can tell that Meghan has actually been changing her look since joining the royal fold – and it’s all down to Kate.

Following in Kate Middleton’s footsteps, Meghan has started using her wardrobe to spread an important message.

Kate predominantly wears British designers, a tribute to her home country, but when meeting international leaders or traveling overseas on royal tours, she mixes British and international designers to give a nod to both her home country and the country that she is visiting.

This advice applies to Meghan Markle more than anyone, with the actress seeming to consciously mix British and Canadian brands and designers in her outfits over the past few months to show respect to both countries.

While she’s American, Canada holds a special place in her heart due to the fact that she spent years filming Suits there.

Starting the trend at her official engagement appearance when she teamed a Parosh dress with a coat by Canadian brand, Line The Label, Meghan has been mixing designers ever since.

While visiting Nottingham with Prince Harry in December, the actress teamed her skirt and boots by British brands Joseph and Kurt Geiger with a coat by Canadian brand Package. And in Brixton earlier this week, she donned a stunning salt and pepper coat by Canadian brand, Smythe, teaming it with an M&S jumper and a pair of Burberry trousers.

Does this mean we could see a Canadian-British designer mix for the big wedding day? We’ll have to wait and see!

Meghan Markle Just Wore a $75 Sweater

Advertisement – Continue Reading Below

Meghan Markle continues to wow everyone with her aspirational yet totally copyable style, as proven by the latest outfit she wore for her second official royal event on Tuesday. And it’s so affordable!

Getty

Okay, it comes to about $2,000, but that’s affordable by royal standards — at least compared to some previous outfits. (Remember the $10,000 Christmas outfit?)

But in all seriousness, at least one of the pieces from the outfit Meghan wore to visit a South London radio station alongside her fiancé, Prince Harry, is relatively inexpensive: a $75 balloon-sleeve sweater by Marks & Spencer. Unfortunately, it sold out in a couple hours, as did the $795 beige Smythe coat she wore.

Getty

The good news? Her wide-leg Burberry pants, Birks gold bar earrings, Sarah Flint pumps, and Sentaler reversible alpaca scarf are still available. The bad news? They’re $650, $395, $395, and $320 respectively. Oh, and the scarf is only available in gray, there are only a few left, and it won’t ship until May.

Sigh.

But if you love the look, all hope is not lost. We’ve found fantastic lookalike pieces at even more fantastic prices.

People Have A Lot of Feelings About Meghan Markle’s Messy Bun

[ad_1]

Read today’s post

And while the majority of internet commentary about Meghan’s bun is positive, some people just had to rain on her royal parade. (This is the internet, after all.)

Damn, Judy!

Although some of the Negative Nancies (or Judies) might like to think they’re just demanding Meghan adhere to royal protocol, the only known “rule” for royal women’s hair is to keep it covered with a hat during formal events. If that’s the case, then even Kate Middleton, with her always-flawless hairstyles, is usually guilty of breaking the same rule.

And besides, she looked so chic! We’re all for a little variety and personal style when it comes to the royals — and everyone else. (Including Judy.)
