Sheer styles reign supreme among the LFW street style set

Temperatures may be dropping but that didn’t stop those in attendance at London Fashion Week from daring to show some skin as they took to the FROW for all the major designers SS24 collections.

From tulle fabrics to barely-there lace and peek-a-boo metallic styles, less was most definitely more, with many opting for sheer midi and maxi dresses to channel the spring summer stylings on the catwalks. And, while the sun may have only made a sporadic appearance, most didn’t let it stop them, choosing to pair their dresses with tights and autumn approved boots to add an extra element to their looks.

Underneath, minimalist underwear added an air of sophistication with nude and black shades creating contrast against bold dresses. If you’re wondering how best to wear a sheer dress, this is a great lesson in how to layer them successfully, as high waisted briefs and simple t-shirt bras will ensure the perfect amount of coverage without compromising on the overall look and feel of the outfit.

This $36 Amazon Dress Gets Me Stopped on the Street

On my way to the subway one recent morning, a woman approached me and said something that prompted me to take my AirPods out. “What?!” I yelled back, because this is New York, and we don’t usually talk to or acknowledge each other except in rare emergencies. “I love your dress!” she said. After I thanked her and revealed, in a slightly embarrassed tone, that it was from Amazon, she whipped her phone out right there on the spot, looked it up, and added it to her cart. Am I…an influencer? I thought, as I continued my walk to the Q train.

R.Vivimos R.Vivimos Half Sleeve Cotton Dress

Such is the magic of the R.Vivimos Women Summer Half Sleeve Cotton Ruffled Vintage Elegant Backless A Line Flowy Long Dresses, which has to be the longest-named item of clothing I own. Cut in a flattering A-line shape with a square neck in a lightweight cotton blend, the dress comes in 23 (!!!) different colors, including three different shades of green. It’s breezy and flowy but double-lined, so it’s not see-through. The lilac color I own is perfect for every occasion: days in the office, lunch at a fancy poolside resort, on a 4-hour trade ride through Morocco in June with no A/C. It’s machine washable and rolls up very compactly, so it’s perfect to pack for summer weekend trips, and any wrinkles easily straighten themselves out within an hour of wear, especially during the city’s humid summers.

The dress is so beloved that not one, but three ELLE editors have it in their current rotation.

“I ordered the dress in yellow and feel like Belle from Beauty and the Beast every time I wear it,” says senior writer Rose Minutaglio. “It’s the perfect mix of feminine and functional, with a billowy skirt and puff sleeves that go just off the shoulder.”

Also, it costs less than $40. Need we say more?

These are the best high street jeans to buy now

Is it just us or is shopping for the perfect pair of jeans sometimes impossible? There are so many styles to choose from, that it’s hard to know which one is right for you.

It’s not just styles, either. With so many brands on the market, it can be difficult to choose the right one to part with your pennies. With lots of the best jeans (opens in new tab) costing £100 and above, the last thing you want is to take them home and find out that they don’t fit as you’d hoped.

Luckily, many high-street brands have been working to improve their collections over the last few years and now a wide range of good quality options exist that won’t break the bank.

We’ve rounded up some of our favourite high street denim brands below, and included lots of information on what fit is right for you.

Which jeans are right for me?

When it comes to jeans, it’s all about the fit. Baggy jeans are all the rage at the moment, but if you’re looking for a more subtle approach, you can’t go wrong with a pair of dad jeans.

Of course, we can’t forget about mom jeans. This style hit the denim scene a while ago, and it looks as if it’s going nowhere. For us, they are the perfect mix of skinny and baggy, and can easily be dressed up with heels and a blazer (opens in new tab), or dressed down with trainers (opens in new tab) and an oversized shirt for an off-duty look.

If you are a straight leg jean girl through and through, not to fear, as we’ve included our favourite slim-fitting pairs too.

For spring and summer, we are loving cropped styles, that are perfect for pairing with chunky sandals.

No need to worry about leg lengths, as lots of high street stores have started their own petite and tall denim ranges, and we couldn’t be happier about it.

Where to shop for the best high street jeans

There are so many good quality high street jeans available. We’ve included our favourite brands below, from Weekday, Mango, Topshop and more. While we know that some of these brands might not be the most sustainable options around, here at Marie Claire UK we believe in conscious consumption and ensuring that every piece you buy becomes a closet staple that you can wear for years to come. When it comes to staples, there’s nothing more timeless than a pair of jeans. Let’s face it, most of us wear jeans every day, so below we have specifically selected classic styles we know you’ll keep forever.

If you’re looking for the right items to pair with your brand new jeans, don’t forget to check out our roundups of the best trench coats (opens in new tab), best designer handbags (opens in new tab) and the best sunglasses to transition your wardrobe into the new season.

The street style trends we

Copenhagen fashion week is known for its incredible street style. Between editors and influencers, Scandinavian women have developed a reputation for being impeccably well-dressed, often falling on the more colourful and unique end of the spectrum.

Over the last week, fashion enthusiasts have descended upon the city of Copenhagen in order to see what the country’s top designers (opens in new tab) have dreamt up for next season. And while we are, of course, interested in seeing what has debuted on the runway, we are equally interested in seeing what people are wearing outside the shows.

Between multi-colour scarves and knitted bonnets (opens in new tab), the Copenhagen street-style set has definitely embraced all kinds of cosy accessories. When it comes to colour, many attendees opted for sunny yellow shades to combat the dreary grey skies and heralded the imminent emergence of spring with 3-D flower brooches. Interestingly, 3-D flowers were a key trend we saw on the Spring/Summer 2023 runways back in September.

Colourful Scarves

Whether it’s Loewe’s instantly recognisable iteration or something a little more low-key, multicoloured scarves have been seen all over Copenhagen fashion week. Show-goers have been using the accessory to add a little fun to their outfits or co-orindate around an existing colour palette.

Bella Hadid is a fan, and as it turns out, so is the Copenhagen street style set. We’ve spotted knitted bonnets all over fashion week over the last few days. The accessory is key to keeping warm in winter, but can also enhance your outfit adding an interesting edge.

Attendees have been bringing their own sunshine to fashion week in the form of subtle yellow shades. Many attendees have opted for pastel yellow outfits throughout the week, adding a dopamine hit to an otherwise grey week.

Three-dimensional flowers were a huge trend on the Spring/Summer 2023 runways and evidently, the fashion set was taking notes. Copenhagen fashion week show-goers have embraced the look, opting for oversize floral brooches and other embellishments.
